Sr. Mgr, Environmental Credit Risk Management TT

Purpose of the Role:     

The Senior Manager, Environmental Credit Risk Management (ECRM) facilitates the development, ongoing enhancement, implementation and day to day execution of policies, standards, processes pertaining to the management of environmental, climate, social risks and opportunities in the Bank’s credit management & lending portfolios and supports the Bank’s satisfactory performance and reputation related to environmental, social and climate risk. The incumbent supports the Associate Director and business, providing subject matter expertise / guidance on environmental, climate and social risks, supporting analysis for recommendations and facilitating CRMD’s preparedness related to ECRM matters in the credit portfolio. 


Key Accountabilities:

  • Identifies & analyses ECRM requirements / workflow, highlighting opportunities for continuous improvement, assessing and supporting recommendations and providing guidance to stakeholders to ensure a high standard and quality of technical work, enabling the Bank to be viewed as a regional environmental and climate risk management and sustainable financing subject matter expert (SME), while avoiding greenwashing and ensuring adherence to regulatory compliance.
  • Monitors & reviews approaches and processes which engender policy and regulatory compliance, credibility and usability for internal and external stakeholders, updating policies and procedures as required to devise and maintain internal policies that support adherence and compliance with external regulators while maintaining regional SME status.
  • Manages & implements environmental and climate change risk initiatives, conducting clients’ due diligence, regulatory assessments, setting up environmental and climate risk processes to ensure alignment with internal ECRM policy which supports overall risk management and supports environmental and climate risk management assessments and activities that contributes to sustainable financing and ensures effective changes to internal policies, processes and external proposals or regulations. 
  • Guides & trains stakeholders, including Corporate Investment Banking on climate and environmental related issues related to credit risk management, develops clear, user-friendly credit risk management internal presentations and represents the Bank at external forums to upskill internal staff and showcase the Bank in public forums cementing it as SME and market leader in the ESG and sustainability financing space and raising awareness and understanding of climate related issues across the Bank.
  • Identifies & manages climate and environmental issues transmitted to the Bank through its credit portfolio, undertaking timely execution of practical, effective environmental risk management, making recommendations for mitigation / resolution to ensure a fit for purpose, relevant analytical framework and mitigation of any risks identified.
  • Prepares, reviews & recommends responses to regulatory requests, related to the Bank’s credit portfolio, including social, environmental and climate related risk management practices, supporting the Associate Director to support the Bank being seen as a trusted knowledgeable leader in environmental and climate risk management and to ensure consistent regulatory compliance and proactive advocacy with regulators.
  • Develops & implements risk mitigation strategies, processes and training tools related to environmental and climate credit risk ensuring the application of appropriate solutions, supporting the Associate Director to ensure related risk management frameworks are robust and up-to date with global and regional policies.
  • Creates & maintains environmental credit risk management data repositories and transactional tools, undertakes analysis and data mining that enhance process flows, simplification and enable data mining that contributes to sound strategic decision making and agile responses.

 

Knowledge / Experience:

  • Environmental management experience acquired through formal academic training and / or at least 3 years of hands-on project related work.
  • Knowledge of environmental management systems policies and protocols in commercial / public sector / international finance context.
  • Proven ability to work across multiple stakeholder groups and influence change successfully.
  • Ability to convey technical and conceptual information to peers, partners, senior management.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to shift focus between granular analysis and broader perspective.
  • Problem solving experience and ability to think critically with proven positive results
  • Experience in using analytical software solutions and tools to manage and interpret complex data sets effectively, including Python / R, SQL, Power BI.  Other data analytics skills would be an asset.
  • Developed project management experience, including demonstrated ability to prioritize projects and meet critical deadlines and deliverables.
  • Experience of and knowledge to provide ongoing technical sound advice, assessment and guidance in the areas of environmental / climate / social risks, mitigation, and management.
  • Knowledge of Geographic Information System (GIS) / remote sensing.
  • Knowledge of risk management approaches / processes.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in environmental management, sustainability, finance, statistics, economics, organizational development, or related field.
  • CFA Institute Certificate in ESG Investing and / or Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP) Sustainability & Climate Risk Certificate would be an asset
