Purpose of Role:
The Senior Application Consultant manages work packages that are part of a release, upgrade, a medium to large project with broad scope, or unrelated assignments and supports the Bank-wide applications by managing all aspects of production support, from the initiation phase through to the implementation phase, and day-to-day support and issue resolution. The incumbent operates independently on assignments of medium to high complexity and supervises junior team members.
Key Accountabilities:
- Gathers, validates & documents business requirements for assignments and work packages to ensure that the requirements maximise operational efficiency, data currency and integrity and are consistent with the strategic direction of the Bank.
- Schedules & conducts meetings, presentations, and walkthroughs, as a subject matter expert, to all system and team members and conducts post implementation reviews to maintain momentum and ensure that all findings / recommendations are documented so that all requirements and improvements are met.
- Contributes the business planning process and test execution plans, participating in the preparation and execution of feasible implementation & test plans to ensure that the solution is fit for purpose.
- Identifies & advises Talent Acquisition & Development and Operations of changes to functions and processes to ensure that teams are aware and any required training sessions arranged.
- Escalates any irregularities to manager and project manager to ensure the interest of the Bank is protected and the irregularities are investigated and resolved.
- Provides operational support for assignments after implementation, undertaking issue triage, problem resolution and document root cause analysis to ensure that there is on-going root cause analysis, problem resolution and enhancements.
- Manages and monitors the expectations of sponsors, clients, and project managers as well as the problem and change logs assigned to the department to ensure that they are kept abreast of the progress/challenges and that issues are quickly addressed.
- Formulates & recommends new / enhancement to policies, methodologies, and standards to improve the quality of deliverables, processes, and outputs.
Critical Knowledge & Experience Required:
- A minimum of 5 years banking knowledge and experience
- Experience in managing people
- Sound understanding of most major core bank systems and experience conducting system integrations, including cards applications and the systems that interact with the card applications.
- Sound understanding of the functional complexity, business objectives and overall operation of a bank environment
- Experience utilizing various testing methodologies
- Sound understanding of business analysis methodologies
- Sound knowledge of banking procedures and data flows
- Able to conduct effective analysis on data sets to develop procedures, training and identify opportunities for process improvement
- Knowledge of branch and finance operations or back-office functions as well as cards and cards services
- College diploma or undergraduate degree in Information Technology, Finance, Business Administration
- Proficiency in SQL or other programming languages would be an asset.
