Senior Analyst, Risk Reporting BB

Purpose of the Role:

The Senior Analyst, Risk Reporting supports the Risk Reporting & Analytics department with the preparation of detailed risk analysis and reports and maintenance of required databases to support reporting to stakeholders, with information sourced through data mining. The incumbent produces weekly, monthly, quarterly, half-yearly, annual and adhoc risk reports which are required for various purposes including management, board and regulatory reporting and monitoring based on complexity and delegated authority limits. The Senior Analyst also prepares qualitative analysis stemming from quantitative reviews for credit risk, with limited market and operational risk as it relates to board, management and regulatory reports. In collaboration with the Manager, Information Systems Risk Reporting, the Senior Analyst seeks opportunities to enhance risk reporting and propose new or revised reports for greater risk focus. The Senior Analyst performs reconciliations from subsidiary systems to the general ledger (GL) and follows up on variances with the Finance team in order to provide accurate and timely reporting. The incumbent also prepares Board material related to the monitoring of credit, market, and operational risk. The incumbent drafts and prepares departmental procedures and process flows for use in day-to-day activities and supports the Senior Manager in updating any related changes to the controls sought to mitigate risks within the reporting processes.


Key Accountabilities

  • Completes management, board and regulatory risk reports based on agreed frequencies, complexity, and delegated authority limits. Completes quarterly reports for the main Board, OpCo Boards and Risk & Conduct Review Board – that provides risk data and analysis for discussion by the Boards at the quarterly meetings. This includes interpreting the results of data to support key analyses for monitoring and preparing risk related information (both quantitative and qualitative) through mining large volumes of data, performing advanced formulas to assist with data mining or profiling
  • Recommends improvements to risk reporting, assists with determining new, revised, or retired risk reports for monitoring and seeks to automate certain elements of reporting to support greater efficiency, allowing focus to further analysis. Coordinates and collaborates with the Manager, Information Systems, Risk Reporting with respect to enhancing the risk reporting infrastructure. Drafts and prepares departmental procedures and process flows for use in day-to-day activities and supports the senior manager in updating any related changes to the controls sought to mitigate risks within the reporting processes
  • Prepares detailed risk analyses (inclusive of current and emerging risks) to support management, board and regulatory risk reports whilst highlighting the main reasons or drivers for risk related areas. A key element of this includes performing reconciliations from source or subsidiary systems to the general ledger and where applicable following up to resolve with impacted stakeholders
  • Coordinates and follows-up with stakeholders on deliverables / timelines for risk reporting and escalates to the Senior Manager within agreed timeframes to support timeliness of output. Ensures that deliverables or areas of concern are taken to closure with all parties’ queries addressed
  • Assists as needed with the numerous ad hoc requests for credit risk information from internal / external sources, e.g. central banks / monetary authorities, finance, marketing - for which the department is called upon to provide

 

Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • Sound working knowledge of external / industry activities as it pertains to credit risk sufficient to develop creative and innovative solutions to complex process issues.
  • Must be able to understand interdependencies and interrelationships between risks.
  • Strong overall risk management knowledge (both quantitative and qualitative risk considerations and factors) in a banking environment.
  • Good understanding of the regulatory environment and the requirements of the regulatory / monetary authorities.
  • Good knowledge of the departmental goals, standards, policies and procedures
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Fully competent in PC applications, e.g. spreadsheets – excel (intermediate to advanced level proficiency required); word processing – word; presentations – powerpoint; office, etc., plus ability to quickly learn relevant and potentially complex, add-on applications is also required.

Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in finance, accounting, risk management or business administration is required.
  • Two to three (3) years risk management and / or risk reporting experience in a financial institution.
  • Experience in any credit risk-related area of the Bank would be an advantage.
  • 3-5 years in the process of data mining and analytics.
