Senior Analyst, Project Monitoring & Analysis BB

Purpose of the Role:     

The Senior Analyst, Project Monitoring & Analysis provides financial analysis and tracking support for all Strategic Project Office (SPO) projects, ensuring that project budgets are approved, spend accurately posted to the general ledger and estimates summarised in the relevant reports to stakeholders, including governance committees (Executive Steering Committees (ESCs), SPO, Board. The incumbent supports the Senior Manager, Project Monitoring & Analysis with annual project planning and prioritization, monthly forecasting, reporting and governance of the SPO portfolio including the review of project funding and change requests.


Key Accountabilities:

  • Analyses & monitors projects spend in the general ledger (GL), providing weekly GL spend reports to project teams and management for project tracking, forecasting and reporting purposes, highlighting discrepancies for correction, and reviewing project trackers for accuracy and practicability to ensure the integrity of the project financial data, that all project costs are posted correctly, timely and within policy and approved project funding, to support the management of the SPO portfolio.
  • Develops & prepares monthly and adhoc dashboards and reports at the individual and overall project portfolio level, providing an update on project / portfolio progress, variance analysis on actual spend versus approved budget and forecasting future project spend and quarterly trends to ensure project sponsors and governance committees are updated on project performance, benefit impact and of any issues or challenges, to allow timely decisions and course correction to maximise return on SPO portfolio.
  • Maintains project code and account structure for all SPO projects, assigning and requesting the opening of a unique project code for each project after project funding is approved by the relevant governance committee, closing project codes for all completed projects after the posting of all legitimate cost to the GL to ensure the proper separation of project cost in the GL for accurate reporting, cost is only recorded for projects with approved funding and illegitimate costs are not posted to projects after project completion.
  • Supports the creation and maintenance of finance-based project materials and templates, e.g. business cases, change requests, budget / spend trackers, forecasting models, key performance indicators (KPIs) / benefits tracking etc. to support key management decision making and governance of the overall SPO portfolio.
  • Supports the review of project funding requests (business cases, seed funding) and change requests, providing financial support during preparation to project teams and project sponsors requiring ESC, SPO, and / or Board approval to ensure that they are complete, within the approved SPO plan and correct and compliant with applicable Bank policies from a finance and governance perspective.
  • Supports the annual SPO project planning and prioritization process, reviewing placemat proposal submissions, collating and summarising project data (financial and non-financial) for prioritization discussions by management and governance committees, and capturing carry forward balances for incomplete projects to ensure proposal submissions are compliant with applicable Bank policies, aligns with the Bank’s strategic priorities, captures all funding necessary to complete ongoing projects and facilitates decision-making by the governance committees.


Knowledge / Experience:

  • 5 years’ experience in the banking industry, preferably in a finance role.
  • Prior experience working in project management or governance environment.
  • Good understanding of project management processes, methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall), and performance metrics.
  • Good working knowledge of financial planning / budgeting, management reporting, analytical procedures and techniques.
  • Good working knowledge of general ledger and portfolio management applications (Infor CloudSuite Financials & Supply Management, ServiceNow IT Business Management).


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business/accounting, or related field.
  • Professional certification in project management (e.g. PMP) or accounting designation would be an asset.
