Purpose:
To assure correct, safe, and efficient loading, transportation and offloading of petroleum products (fuels, LPG, or Lubricants) to various sites in Barbados and safe return to the depot without incident and to responsibly operate and care for company vehicles driven.
Accountabilities:
• Assure the highest level of health, safety, security and environmental (HSSE) awareness and practices at all times.
• Maintain the vehicle cab in a clean and tidy condition on a daily basis.
• Carry out daily vehicle inspections as per policy and deliver to Fleet Supervisor for review and action.
• Report any vehicle defects and/ or incidents which may occur as soon as possible on a daily basis.
• Ensure hoses and connections are in good condition and free of leaks.
• Ensure all equipment specified is available, in good working condition and on/ in the vehicle as appropriate.
• Document and report any outlets (retail or commercial) which require proper fittings or those which fall short of HSSE requirements.
• Ensure all vehicle loading safety requirements are always met. These are Master switch off, parking brake on, vehicle is bonded, compartment is empty before loading, switch loading safety procedures are adhered to, loading arm is extended to the bottom of the compartment (when top loading), correct petroleum products type and quantity is loaded and recorded on the log, report defects at the loading gantry, always use personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Complete accurate meter control records for each delivery.
• Complete accurate trip log to show loading time, journey time, maintenance time, waiting time and number of drops.
• Report all defects, delays, or unusual occurrences on trip log.
• Discuss with customers the unloading plan and accuracy of product regarding grade and volume to be off loaded. Always request the dip of tanks to ensure this accuracy.
• Ensure prescribed routes are followed and operate within speed limit observing all traffic rules.
• Hand all documents collected at sites upon return to depot.
• Through trained driving practices and following procedures, achieve zero accidents where driver has contributed to the cause. Practice defensive driving techniques always.
• Attend training courses as required.
• Attend toolbox and safety meetings as required.
• Take corrective action to eliminate hazards at work or report those hazards which cannot be immediately corrected.
• Report all accidents, near-misses, unsafe acts, and unsafe conditions.
• Employ customer care techniques to make the delivery process a pleasant and professional experience to the customer thereby achieving zero customer complaints.
• Ensure vehicle has sufficient petroleum products for each day’s journey.
• Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures.
• Participate in special drills and exercises such as oil spill exercise. Such exercises and drills may be in collaboration with other oil companies and the emergency services.
• Dispose of waste in a responsible manner and follow all waste management guidelines.
HSSE: General Responsibilities (but not limited to):
Observe HSE regulations, wears all required safety equipment, encourages safe working practices, corrects obvious hazards immediately or reports them to the proper personnel.
Ability to work with employees and achieve cultural change in the face of potential resistance.

Perform other work-related tasks as required as assigned.

Qualification Requirements:
• A sound secondary education.
• Possession of a penalty free heavy goods vehicle driving licence.
• 3 to 5 years Driving heavy goods vehicles.
Other Competency Requirements:
• HSSE and Emergency Codes compliance.
• A practical operator with a proven ability to get things done on time and on budget.
• Knowledge of the Barbados market and operational methods of people in the area.
• Able to self-plan, motivate, and deliver results.
• Demonstrates enthusiasm and an attitude to work well with others in teams.
• Excellent interpersonal relationships with the proven ability to supervise people.
Other Information:
In addition to basic salary the successful applicant shall receive applicable job grade allowances and be eligible to participate in The Sol Group Pension Scheme and its non-contributory Group Health and Life Insurance Scheme. Travel may be required.
