Purpose of Role:
The Fraud Officer develops specific investigative and control / security measures for timely detection of fraud, counteraction of fraudulent activities and provides initial support in areas of fraud investigations, managing automated fraud alerts and, where necessary, liaison with external agencies including attorneys, and police authorities within and outside the countries where the Bank operates. The incumbent supports the Bank’s defences to ensure that it can keep pace with changing fraud patterns, coordinating fraud intelligence and is collaborating with key stakeholders, including the wider the Enterprise Fraud Risk Management team and business units.
Key Accountabilities:
- Reviews & identifies proactive measures to protect the Banks’s assets, making policy or procedural change recommendations to minimise losses and drive profitability, and assisting in the production, research and update of the Fraud Management Policy and Fraud Management Manual to ensure that the Bank’s controls and fraud detection systems are effective and in line with international standards.
- Investigates assigned fraud related activity perpetrated the Bank, reviewing fraud cases across all non-cards’ fraud areas, including internet / mobile banking, branch banking, and CIB applications to ensure all fraud investigations are completed, as required in a timely manner, following relevant processes / procedures, to reduce financial impact to clients and mitigate risk exposure to the Bank.
- Supports the investigative team in the review of synopses submitted by the business contained in the fraud related risk event reports (RERs) database to ensure that information captured in the database is concise and classified appropriately to ensure the Bank to meets Basel requirements.
- Supports the Portfolio Manager and Senior Fraud Analyst by conducting research, forensic analysis, investigation and preparation of reports on frauds, forgeries, and other criminal acts to facilitate internally / externally communication to ensure that internal /external analysis and documentation are completed and disseminated to the appropriate stakeholders for the proper and timely conclusion of all fraud cases.
- Coordinates the distribution of internal & external local and regional publications, fraud alerts and cautions related to fraud and criminal activity and assists with all EFRM initiatives (e.g. the review and publication: CMTT material Annual FAW, Manuals, Mandates, etc) and manage the Fraud Mailbox and automated fraud alerts) to educate the Bank’s staff and clients and ensure that the Bank’s staff are technically developed and coached in all aspects of fraud prevention and fraud management techniques and clients are kept apprised of the latest fraud schemes and how to avoid and report them.
Critical Knowledge & Skills Required:
- At least 3 years’ in fraud management, loss prevention.
- Understanding of fraud, operational risk, business risk, credit risk, PC security.
- Experience in managing third-party relationships.
- Working knowledge of bank operations, operational policies.
- Knowledge of the political and economic environments and financial services industry in the Caribbean.
Experience Required
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics or business administration would be an asset
- Certification as a Fraud Examiner would be an asset.
