Financial Reporting Assistant TT

General Accountability

The Financial Reporting Assistant prepares, or assists with the preparation of, financial statements, supporting general ledger schedules, reconciliations and other management reports for the Corporation.

 

Key Responsibilities

Assist with the preparation of interim (monthly and/or quarterly) and annual financial statements of the Corporation in accordance with IFRS, by agreed dates including preparing schedules to support the Financial Statements.

Perform the following with respect to the Corporation:

 

  • Prepare monthly financial statements in accordance with IFRS
  • Prepare analytical schedules to support the monthly financial statements
  • Review all transactions within the Corporation to ensure the said transactions have been recorded in accordance with IFRS and Group accounting policies
  • Initiate corrective action where transactions have been inaccurately recorded. Follow-up improperly recorded transactions to ensure that corrections are executed
  • Prepare and maintain detailed working paper files, to support the financial statements and to facilitate reference by the relevant users
  • Ensure journals posted to general ledgers are supported by adequate documentation

 

Assist in the preparation of the draft notes to the financial statements, supporting schedules, and reconciliations of the Corporation

 

  • Prepare draft notes in accordance with IFRS and accounting policies
  • Prepare balance sheet schedules to support general ledger account balances
  • Prepare monthly payroll reconciliation
  • Prepare periodic general ledger to sub-ledger reconciliations
  • Prepare variance analysis reports on the general ledger account balances

 

Record treasury transactions in financial systems and assist in advising on technical accounting issues that may arise.

 

  • Ensure that all treasury transactions are entered for each reporting period and are recorded in accordance with IFRS
  • Assist in coordinating the collection of all documents supporting treasury transactions and follow up on outstanding documents for the reporting period
  • Prepare journal entries for authorisation including attaching relevant supporting documentation and posting all authorised transactions
  • Ensure financial sub-systems for treasury transactions are reconciled on a timely basis with General Ledger systems
  • Post transactions and reconcile brokerage accounts based on brokerage statements received
  • Investigate and resolve cash book adjustments in treasury accounts

 

Prepare the regulatory reports of the Corporation (eg. MMRF).

 

  • Ensure all regulatory reports are completed accurately and on a timely manner

 

Prepare the following:

  • Quarterly and final tax calculations for the Corporation
  • Bi-monthly VAT calculation and returns for the Corporation
  • Draft corporation tax return for the Corp

 

Ensure the following:

  • The correct tax rate is applied
  • Only relevant transactions are subject to taxation
  • The tax payments is correctly accounted for in the books of the Corporation

 

Identify, actively lead, or assist team members with ad hoc or scheduled projects, tasks, or initiatives to achieve identified goals, deadlines, or efficiencies or other benefits for the Finance Department or Corporation as a whole

  • As agreed in advance

 

The selected candidate must possess the following combination of qualifications, skills, training and experience:

  • A First Degree in a relevant field from an accredited tertiary institution  
  • Pursuing final level of a professional accounting designation, such as ACCA, CIMA, CGA, CMA or equivalent tertiary education will be an asset
  • Experience in the preparation of financial statements and technical accounting principles and standards (IFRS) will be an asset
  • Minimum of three (3) years’   experience in a similar position within the financial industry
  • Two (2) years’ supervisory experience
  • Suitable combination of training and experience

OR

  • A Diploma in a relevant field from an accredited institution
  • Pursuing final level of a professional accounting designation, such as ACCA, CIMA, CGA, CMA or equivalent tertiary education will be an asset
  • Experience in the preparation of financial statements and technical accounting principles and standards (IFRS) will be an asset
  • Minimum of five (5) years’   experience in a similar position within the financial industry
  • Three (3) years’ supervisory experience
  • Suitable combination of training and experience
