The National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (NGC), a leading Company in the development of the country's natural gas industry, invites applications from suitably qualified professionals to join our dynamic team to work in a challenging, results-oriented environment.

 

OBJECTIVE/PURPOSE

  • To support the company’s sustainability and decarbonization objectives through the research, development, monitoring, and reporting of carbon abatement initiatives.
  • The Advisor will play a critical role in translating greenhouse gas (GHG) data and performance indicators into actionable insights and stakeholder reports, ensuring compliance with national and international standards.
  • This role is pivotal in aligning the company with the Oil and Gas Methane Partnership (OGMP) standards of which NGC is a signatory by reducing methane emissions and advancing environmental stewardship.
  • The Advisor will provide guidance, oversight, and support on corporate environmental governance, ensuring adherence to environmental regulations.

 

FUNCTIONS

  • Conducts research and development initiatives related to Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction, including performing simulations and interpreting process models using tools such as Aspen or equivalent software to assess emission impacts and identify carbon abatement opportunities based on operational scenarios.
  • Collaborates with various business groups, subsidiaries, and NOJVs to help them achieve their Green Agenda objectives, including results validation and reporting.
  • Supports the implementation of environmental policies, carbon abatement initiatives, and sustainability practices in alignment with the Oil and Gas Methane Partnership (OGMP) guidelines, the Environmental Management Authority’s Knowledge Management System (KMS), and Mitigation Monitoring and Reporting Verification (MRV) requirements, under the guidance of senior staff.
  • Offers guidance and required documentation to ensure policies and procedures are in place to meet compliance requirements.
  • Implements and maintains data capture systems for efficient reporting on environmental performance.
  • Reviews and validates data, working with internal and external verifiers to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Collates, maintains, and analyzes data on energy consumption, Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions, and other environmental metrics from various sources to identify trends, anomalies, and areas of improvement.
  • Reports achievements and progress towards Green Agenda goals to stakeholders.
  • Develops and maintains a comprehensive inventory of the organization’s GHG emissions, including but not limited to GHG calculations using standardized methodologies and reliable data management through internal audits or other applicable verification mechanisms.
  • Conducts research and schedules process simulation models (for example,, Aspen or equivalent tools) to assess emission impacts and identify carbon abatement opportunities based on operational scenarios.
  • Works collaboratively within the NGC Group of Companies and the broader energy sector to gain insights and share best practices.
  • Participates in training programs to enhance understanding of company, sector, and national targets and verification processes.
  • Liaises with internal and external stakeholders in the event of environmental incidents such as leakages.
  • Prepares accurate mandatory Green Agenda and carbon reports to regulatory bodies in compliance with the organization’s policies and procedures.
  • Assesses emission impacts and identify carbon abatement opportunities based on operational scenarios.
  • Monitors and advises on completion of compliance-related actions to ensure the protection of business activities.
  • Assists in setting and reviewing organizational sustainability and carbon reduction goals. - Defines and develops future strategies for NGC in terms of carbon abatement and sustainability.
  • Executes any other related duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

The minimum requirements for the position are:

  • Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS), BSc in a Chemical or Process Engineering, Safety or Environmental Science OR related field.
  • ISO 14001 Environmental Management and ISO 50001 Energy Management Systems (EnMS) Standards would be an asset.
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in the research, preparation of technical documentation and progress reports on technical matters.
