Captain SX

The 12 Metre Captain is responsible for the safe and professional operation of a 12 Metre America's Cup racing yacht during guest sailing excursions and race charters. This role ensures vessel readiness, compliance with maritime regulations, guest safety, and delivery of an exceptional guest experience on the water. The Captain leads the onboard crew, manages vessel maintenance, and supports shore-side coordination as required.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Command the 12 Metre yacht during tours, races, and special charters, ensuring safety, professionalism, and guest satisfaction at all times.
  • Conduct pre-departure vessel inspections and safety checks.
  • Brief guests on safety procedures and tour expectations prior to departure.
  • Supervise and coordinate crew members, assigning roles during sailing and ensuring smooth teamwork.
  • Respond swiftly and appropriately to any onboard emergencies or adverse conditions.
  • Maintain accurate vessel logs, including maintenance, incidents, and voyage reports.
  • Coordinate with maintenance supervisors to ensure vessel upkeep and timely repairs.
  • Assist with docking, undocking, rigging, and general vessel operations.
  • Ensure compliance with all maritime laws, safety standards, and company policies.
  • Promote a welcoming, informative, and interactive atmosphere for guests.
  • Represent the brand and uphold high customer service standards in line with company values.

 

Qualifications:

  • Valid Captain’s license appropriate for the vessel and operating region (e.g., STCW, Boatmaster license, or equivalent).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a Captain on sailing vessels, ideally on racing yachts or charter operations.
  • Strong knowledge of sailing techniques, vessel handling, and safety protocols.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Customer service-oriented with a professional and approachable demeanor.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Physically fit and able to manage the demands of a hands-on sailing environment.

 

Preferred Experience

  • Familiarity with classic 12 Metre yachts or America's Cup racing history.
  • Experience in hospitality or tourism-based sailing excursions.
  • First Aid and CPR certified.
