Senior Lecturer SW&D

Established in 2009, the Faculty of Arts and Science (FAS) is the fourth and youngest faculty of the University of Aruba. One of the programs at the FAS is the Social Work & Development (SW&D) program through which the Aruban society in multiple ways is being impacted. To replace a colleague within the SW&D program we are looking for a: Senior Lecturer (1,0 fte.)

Our new colleague is an experienced lecturer that fulfills the role of Program Coordinator and within this capacity manages the Bachelor of Arts Social Work and Development Program. This includes teaching, handling the operational matters, and providing academic leadership to the program in curriculum renewal, quality management, and accreditation preparation.

Main responsibilities: 

  • Academic administration and coordination of the Social Work and Development Program, such as managing assessment schedules, class schedules, and grade inspections.
  • Lecturing courses within the SW&D program.
  • Leading the SW&D team and supporting the team’s performance and development.
  • Maintain and develop collaboration with local, regional, and international partners and universities to develop the program.
  • Leading the continuous improvement of the curriculum and the accreditation processes of the program.
  • Maintain and renew the quality of the curriculum based on knowledge of current developments in social work and social work education in relation to the Aruban context.

The ideal candidate:

  • Has a Bachelor’s in Social Work followed by a Master’s in Social Work or Social Studies.
  • Has a minimum of five years of teaching experience.
  • Has experience in leading and managing teams, and is a hands-on leader that is part of the team.
  • Is an excellent communicator, with verbal and written proficiency in English, working knowledge in Papiamento and Dutch, and Spanish is a plus.
  • Knowledge and experience with Dutch Caribbean Social Work.
  • Proven professional skills & competencies: organize, coordinate, and coach.
  • Has a flexible and cooperative attitude, and is able to fulfill and transition into a variety of roles within a small team;
  • Is able to work independently as well as contribute as an effective team member.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in and understanding of Diversity and Inclusion.

We offer a pleasant working environment within a small university with around 600 students that is in full development. The small scale of our organization requires a flexible mindset to deploy a variety of activities with the possibility of conducting scientific research.

This position is for an appointment of 40 hours per week and for a salary in accordance with the remuneration scheme of the University of Aruba. The appointment is for a contract period of one (1) to three (3) years with the possibility of a contract extension based on a good performance evaluation and unchanged organization conditions. Part of our secondary employment conditions includes 30 vacation days, 13 ATV days, a vacation allowance, a pension plan, additional health insurance, and opportunities for personal and professional development.
