Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate should possess a DVM/BVSc or equivalent with a PhD in Veterinary Soft Tissue Surgery or a closely related field.


Candidates should also possess:

  • At least ten (10) years’ specialist experience in Veterinary Soft Tissue Surgery
  • A minimum of ten (10) years University level teaching experience and post graduate research
  • A high level of clinical competence
  • Demonstrated ability to:
  • Supervise Small Animal Veterinary Soft Tissue Surgery cases
  • Lecture Undergraduate Students in Veterinary Soft Tissue Surgery (Small Animal Species)
  • Contribute significantly to curriculum development


Candidates with the following would have an advantage:

  • An acceptable level of research as evidenced by recent publications in peer reviewed journals
  • Ability to guide and supervise group research


The following will be considered assets:

  • Board certification (Dip ACVS, Dip ECVS)
  • Ability to consult on Farm Animal Veterinary Soft Tissue Surgery cases
  • Post DVM experience in Veterinary Radiology and Anaesthesia


Special Responsibilities

  • Leading the Small Animal Surgery Unit
  • Mentoring undergraduate and post-graduate students, as well as teaching assistants and junior level staff
  • Developing, fostering and maintaining original and innovative research in the School of Veterinary Medicine
  • Coordinating and conducting continuing professional education modules in soft tissue surgery
  • Performing surgical procedures for small and companion animals (rabbits, reptiles)
