Security Assurance Officer TT

National Energy Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (National Energy) is a wholly owned subsidiary of The National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (NGC), with a mandate to conceptualize, promote, facilitate and develop sustainable energy-based industries locally and internationally.


This position reports to the Head, Security Assurance, with responsibilities for  coordinating and assisting in the implementation of a range of initiatives for the appropriate identification, elimination or minimization of security risks or threats, for the protection of all personnel, infrastructure, company related information and the environment


Key Functions:


  • Participates in the design, implementation, and maintenance of company security policies, programs, and procedures.

  • Ensures the organization’s compliance with local, regional, and international regulatory requirements where applicable.

  • Leads and/or participates in investigations of security related incidents and assists with implementation of corrective actions, as required.

  • Conducts security assessments and identifies potential vulnerabilities in the operations.

  • Supports the Head, Security Assurance in delivering workshops and  implementing initiatives, and programs for an effective Enterprise-Wide Security Risk Management framework.

  • Assists in the preparation and execution of the annual Security Department Workplans and Objectives in alignment with the company’s Strategic Plan.

  • Monitors and analyzes current and emerging trends that may influence the organization's business operations, providing proactive advice and recommendations to the Head of Security Assurance.

  • Performs the function of Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO) Alternate, ensuring compliance with the ISPS Code.

  • Coordinates and facilitates security awareness and education initiatives to all stakeholders.

  • Prepares operational and statistical reports along with relevant documents as required to assist the Head, Security Assurance in making informed decisions and facilitating effective information dissemination.

  • Assists in the implementation and monitoring of a Security Information Management Systems (SIMS).

  • Represents the company, where requested, at external stakeholder meetings, workshops, conferences and make recommendations to the Head, Security Assurance on shared learnings.


The minimum requirements for the position are:


  • A First Degree in Security Management or equivalent education in a related field

  • Certified Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO) by an accredited body in accordance with the International Ship and Port Security Code.

  • Certification in Cybersecurity will be an asset.

  • At least five (5) years progressive work experience in a similar role within the Maritime Industry with at least three (3) years at a supervisory level.

  • Previously held the role as PFSO or PFSO Alternate with demonstrated experience in implementing a cohesive security risk management framework aligned to industry best practice will be an asset


Knowledge and Skills:


  • Competency in Business Continuity Planning, Auditing, Crisis Management, Risk Management Skills

  • Extensive knowledge of surveillance systems and physical security.

  • High-level understanding of applicable legal framework

  • High-level understanding of Corporate Governance, Risk and Compliance

  • Knowledge of information technology, information security and innovative security management solutions (e.g. identity management and threat intelligence)

  • Knowledge of Contract Management

  • Strong investigation and report writing skills.

  • Knowledge of security risk management best practice and maritime industry security standards and protocols

  • Business Communication (Strong written and oral)
