The Tax Affairs Department is part of the Ministry of Finance and is responsible for preparing, implementing, and managing fiscal policy and legislation, tax treaties, and consultation and advice on national, kingdom, and international tax matters, as well as treaty execution. The Tax Affairs Department is looking for a high-quality policy officer to strengthen the department. Policy Officer Fiscal affairs (MSc) The Role: As a Policy Officer for Tax Affairs, you will advise the Head of the Tax Affairs Department and the Minister of Finance on tax matters.

The scope of this role includes:

• Making a significant contribution to the development or adjustment of fiscal laws and regulations, tax treaties, and policy development.

• Participating in internal and external programs, project groups, and representing Sint Maarten at international organizations.

• Reporting to the Head of the Tax Affairs Department.

Your Duties and Responsibilities:

• Preparing, evaluating, and advising on the strategic policy to be pursued in both national and international tax matters within the Ministry.

• Identifying, analyzing, and evaluating developments in the relevant policy area and assessing their significance for the policy area.

• Providing advice on both the national and international aspects of Sint Maarten's tax legislation and tax policy.

• Maintaining contact with stakeholders and ensuring coordination and information exchange.

• Coordinating the development and implementation of the Tax Affairs Department's (multi)annual policy program.

• Advising, negotiating, and maintaining contacts with countries regarding tax treaties.

• Independently preparing positions, advice, and (policy) notes.

• Reviewing and integrating positions from internal and external parties involved in policy formation.

• Proposing further research and consulting with relevant units.

Requirements:

You have:

• Completed an MSc in Tax Law or Tax Economics.

• At least 3 years of experience in a tax legal or economic function.

You possess knowledge of:

• A solid understanding of Sint Maarten's tax legislation.

• Knowledge of and insight into national tax legislation, developments therein, and the interrelation of various means.

• Knowledge of and insight into international tax legislation and developments therein.

You have the following:

• An understanding of fiscal-political relations and awareness of the environment.

• Skills in problem analysis, planning, and organizing.

• Integrity and the ability to work under pressure and maintain strict confidentiality.

• Strong communication and writing skills in Dutch and English.

• A proactive, solution-oriented, creative, and results-driven attitude.

• The ability to work well in a team.

• Strong analytical skills.

• Willingness to continuously learn and stay informed about developments.

Salary:

Depending on knowledge and experience, the salary ranges from a minimum of NAf. 4,365.00 to a maximum of NAf 8,662.00 gross per month for a full workweek.
