The Department

Currently there are 5 nephrologists (2 BIG registered internist-nephrologists and 3 non BIG registered nephrologists) working on the island. We work together as the Organization Nephrologists Aruba (ONA). Three nephrologists (of which two internist-nephrologists) work in the HOH as a team and two nephrologists are working in the IMSAN (Dialysis Facility in San Nicholas).

In the dialysis facility of the HOH we have 21 hemodialysis units with a population of 84 hemodialysis patients. The renal replacement therapy on the intensive care is provided by the nephrology. We also provide a dedicated care of peritoneal dialysis (PD), our current population is 35 PD patients. Our PD program includes: urgent start PD (Intensive Care), CCPD and CAPD. The hemodialysis catheters are placed ultrasound guided by the nephrologist. The renal biopsies are also performed ultrasound guided by the nephrologist. For the Dutch Caribbean we serve as a referral center for Therapeutic Plasma Exchange (centrifugal apheresis). There is a transatlantic renal transplant program with the Academic Medical Center of Amsterdam (pre emptive, living (un)related and cadaveric).

What are we looking for:

• Board certified (BIG or non BIG registered).
• Has to participate in the nephrology on call shifts.
• Someone who is willing to integrate in the Aruban culture (learn the language Papiamento) and has affinity with a diverse multi-cultural society.
• Is a team player and is flexible.
