JOB SUMMARY

The Junior Security Officer will be responsible for providing security services to the children and staff who reside at the Reception Centre. The role of the Junior Security Officer involves ensuring a safe and secure environment for children, personnel and property, while complying with Statutory Requirements regarding security and to support a professional, functional and comfortable environment at the Reception Centre.

 

All of these services will be delivered in-keeping with best practice, while respecting and promoting the rights of the child. All activities must be geared towards maintaining the highest levels of service to all internal and external stakeholders and clients, must be sensitive to children’s issues, must conform to the guidelines and standards set by The Authority and to all legal, regulatory and statutory requirements.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

i. Monitor the premises and equipment and takes required action as determined appropriate.

ii. Attend to any safety and security issues at the Reception Centres and initiate and respond with the requisite security and protective actions.

iii. Monitor onsite CCTV and alarm systems where provided.

iv. Keep documented records/logs of daily occurrences and provide weekly reports to Security Coordinator.

v. Screen all staff and visitors. vi. Manage vehicular and pedestrian access and regulate parking and traffic flow.

vii. Assist in any event of evacuation and/or crisis situations.

viii. Operate all electronic security devices. 

ix. Performs any other security duties which may be required.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Diploma in Security Administration or Five (5) CXC O’Level passes, including English Language and Mathematics.
  • Three (3) years’ in general security work.
  • Previous experience working with children would be an asset
  • Training in security techniques for responding to safety and security issues in Reception Centres.
  • Or, equivalent combination of training and experience.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Working knowledge of current security threats in Trinidad and Tobago.
  • Operational knowledge of electronic security devices.
  • Basic knowledge in computer operation.
  • Strong decision-making skills as well as effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Good problem-solving skills.
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Good analytical and reporting abilities.
  • Customer service orientation.
  • Must hold a valid driver’s permit.
  • Demonstrable interest in children’s issues.
