Instructional Design Specialist

The Job: The purpose of the job is to provide administrative and professional support in the development and implementation of relevant and engaging teaching and learning content for face-to-face, blended and online programmes and courses by the Academic Services Department.

The primary responsibilities would include:

  • Participate in or facilitate course and programme reviews.
  • Work with and advise Subject Matter Experts on programme and course design as it relates to:
    • setting instructional goals and development of content that matches these goals
    • applying tested instructional design theories, practice and methods to create engaging learning activities and compelling course content
    • developing learning exercises and activities that enhance the learning process for face-to-face, blended learning and fully online programmes and courses
    • producing learning graphics and multimedia resources
    • utilization of a range of relevant and appropriate modes of assessment to measure student performance
  • Select and use a variety of techniques to define and sequence course content and learning activities in multiple modalities.
  • Develop high-quality and relevant graphics, the user interface and the finished product.
  • Maintain, update and upload course content on UWI-ROYTEC’s Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Design training materials and deliver training to faculty on how to design learning materials and deliver the curriculum in the face-to-face, blended learning and fully online learning environments.
  • Advise on the selection of instructional materials and Open Educational Resources (OERs).
  • Assist faculty on incorporating new instructional technologies in their delivery of the curriculum.
  • Conduct research on new innovations in learning design and evaluate new eLearning platforms and materials.

The ideal candidate should possess:

  • Master's degree in instructional design, educational technology or similar relevant field
  • Three to five years of progressive experience in relevant field
  • Basic understanding of LMS and the integration of technology in support of student learning.
  • Knowledgeable on the use of learning objects in different types of instructional delivery models
  • Ability to use collaboration tools (e.g. Dropbox Google Docs, Microsoft Teams, etc.)
  • Ability to foster an open and exploratory approach to new media and practical applications for technology use in teaching
  • Ability to use screen capture tools and presentation tools to support instruction (e.g. Captivate, Jing, PowerPoint, Articulate, Camtasia Relay)
  • Lesson and curriculum planning skills
  • Strong written and oral communication and presentation skills
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Strong analytical skills
