Job Purpose

The post holder assists, advises and supports the managing, acquisition, supply, and distribution of information and data. S/he makes sure that information is accessible to key stakeholders, especially volunteers and staff of National Societies, Project, Programme and Emergency Managers and technical officers of IFRC.


Job Duties and Responsibilities

Data Analysis

  • Interprets data and turns it into information which can offer ways to improve operations, thus affecting business decisions.
  • Gathers information from various sources and interpret patterns and trends 
  • Generates comprehensive reports based on information

Data Visualization/Data Virtualization

  • Presents information in creative formats according to the target audience. 
  • Uses visualization tools and software to communicate information
  • Makes large and/or complex data more accessible, understandable, and usable for key stakeholders
  • Transforms, improves and integrates data, depending on requirements
  • Combines the data result sets across multiple sources (data federation)
  • Delivers the data in a useful and appealing way to users
  • Makes information accessible to target audience

Information Science

  • Collects, processes, cleans, analyses data to produce valid information that stakeholders can understand

Databases and Repositories Management

  • Ensures that information is up to date
  • Ensures that data protection laws are met
  • Responds to enquiries from stakeholders
  • Develops and improves information systems

Technical Support and Advise

  • Supports the development of data collection questionnaires and tools;
  • Supports National Societies with data collection for surveys, PDMs, mid-term and end-line analysis, etc;
  • Configures and maintains dashboards to support monitoring of project, programmes and operations on  operational and strategic levels
  • Maintains and updates GIS products
  • Cleans data from the field / ensuring data quality
  • Supports capacity-building of the National Societies to support proper data capture and information management in the field
  • Keeps the IFRC information platforms (GO and Operations Room) up to date
  • Collects and interprets data, analysing results
  • Reports the results back to key stakeholders
  • Identifies patterns and trends in data sets
  • Works alongside the global and regional Information Management teams to establish business needs
  • Defines new data collection and analysis processes

Implementation of Regional Project Activities

  • Provides technical advice and subject matter expertise to NSs, implementing donor supported projects.

Actively work towards the achievement of the Federation Secretariat’s goals

Abide by and work in accordance with the Red Cross and Red Crescent principles

Perform any other work -related duties and responsibilities that may be assigned by the line manager



  • Bachelor Degree Computer Science or Information Managment Systmes or in a related discipline - Required


  • Three (3) to Five (5) years’ experience in data models and reporting packages -  Required
  • Three (3) to Five (5) years’ experience in analysing large datasets - Required
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience working with large amounts of information - Required
  • Experience working for the Red Cross/Red Crescent/ membership organization or an international/developmental organisation - Preferred

  • Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods - Required
  • Ability to write comprehensive reports and pay attention to detail - Required

  • Understanding and practice of the Principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement - Required
  • Demonstrated ability in manipulating large data sets and in using data analysis tools and languages such as SQL, Python, R, STATA, SPSS - Preferred;
  • Information Management and data skills in the areas of mobile data collection, data visualization, including mapping and M&E - Preferred;
  • Demonstrated familiarity in using KoBo / Open Data Kit and other data collection tools - Preferred;
  • Demonstrated familiarity Mapping software QGIS, ESRI, Carto - Preferred;
  • Demonstrated familiarity with Power BI, Tableau or other business analytics software - Preferred;
  • Demonstrated familiarity with Adobe CS or other design software - Preferred;


  • Fluent written and spoken English;
  • Fluent written and spoken Spanish or French (would be an advantage).
