ICT Engineer - User Operations

Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate should possess a BSc degree or equivalent from a recognized university in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a closely related field.

 

Candidates should also possess:

  • Professional certification such as MCSE, MCSA, SCSA, CCNA, CCNP
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in Systems Administration and technical support
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in providing end user support with the use of productivity applications, preferably in a networked environment

 

Candidates should also be proficient in a combination of at least two (2) of the following:

  • Local Area Network testing and troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite or productivity applications
  • Management of audio visual and multimedia equipment

 

Candidates with the following would have an advantage:

  • Knowledge of the management and administration of the LINUX, Windows operating system
  • Knowledge in the deployment and configuration of Microsoft Server 2008/2012/2016/2019
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory design and deployment
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in Computer Network Design, operation and management
  • Familiarity with managing wireless technologies
  • Working knowledge of authentication and authorizing mechanisms such as Microsoft Active Directory, LDAP, Radius and Certificate based authentication
  • Experience with administration of Hyper-Converged Server Infrastructure
  • Experience writing technical reports and documentation
  • User administration of the VoIP/Unified Communications voice/collaboration systems
  • Familiarity with the operation of peripheral devices

 

The following will be considered assets:

  • Project Management Certification
  • Professional certification as an HCIA
  • Knowledge of Computer and Network Security issues and management of firewall systems
  • Experience with supervision of IT projects
  • Knowledge in the design of Local Area Networks and planning their development

 

Special Responsibilities

  • Administering the converged server and storage infrastructure
  • Administering the low-level support services, such as: NTP, DNS, IDM, DHCP
  • User Administration for the PBX/Voice/Unified Communications Platform
  • User Administration for the Campus Area Network (CAN) to coordinate authentication and access to network resources around the Campus
  • Providing the first line technical support to LAN users in their use of Microsoft Office, the Internet, the LAN or the CAN networks, including resolution for system, network and application problems
  • Participating with the systems engineers in the systems-related work within the Department, providing technical support as required
  • Security and integrity of Campus IT equipment, facilities and infrastructure and the information which they store and manage
  • Contributing to the design of LANs, the CAN and planning their development
  • Administering policies and standards governing the Campus and University IT infrastructure
  • Monitoring the network and computing assets for the proper security procedures, software, and signs of compromise
