ICT Engineer - Core Operations

Qualifactions and Experience

The successful candidate should possess an MSc degree or equivalent from a recognised university in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a closely related field.


Candidates should also possess:

  • Professional certification such as MCSE, MCSA, SCSA, CCNA, CCNP
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in the management of an ICT technical/support team
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in Systems Administration and technical support
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in Computer Network Design, operation and management
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience with the design, planning and installation of ICT systems at an enterprise level


Candidates with the following would have an advantage:

  • Managing wireless technologies
  • Network Management Platforms such as Solar Winds and eSight
  • Design and administration of Hyper-Converged Server Infrastructure
  • Writing technical reports and documentation
  • Experience with managing VoIP/Unified Communications voice/collaboration systems
  • Knowledge in Routing and Switching protocols and QoS implementation
  • Knowledge in the deployment and configuration of Microsoft Server 2008/2012/2016/2019
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory
  • Knowledge of the management and administration of the LINUX operating system
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite or productivity applications


The following will be considered assets:

  • Project Management Certification
  • Professional certification as a HCIA
  • Network Architecture Design and Engineering
  • Network Security Architecture Design and Engineering
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in managing IT projects
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in scheduling and directing the activities of contractors
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in providing end user support with the use of productivity applications, preferably in a networked environment
  • Management of audio visual and multimedia equipment


Special Responsibilities

  • Managing an ICT technical/support team
  • Administering and managing Campus/Local Area Networks (CAN/LANs)
  • Administering the Data Centre infrastructure
  • Administering the converged server and storage infrastructure
  • Administering the low-level support services, such as: NTP, DNS, IdM, DHCP
  • Administering the PBX/Voice/Unified Communications Platform
  • Participating with the systems engineers in the systems-related work within the Department, providing technical support as required
  • Ensuring the security and integrity of Campus IT equipment, facilities and infrastructure and the information which they store and manage
  • Contributing to the design of LANs, the CAN and planning their development
  • Administering policies and standards governing the Campus and University IT infrastructure

  • Be able to manage a team of ICT Professionals
