Job Summary

The Director, Global Procurement – Technology and Operations is responsible for leading a team of Procurement professionals that support our Cyber, Digital, and Retail Banking and Payments Technology teams with all of their Procurement needs across Software Agreements (on-prem, cloud, SaaS), hardware and infrastructure, application and implementation services, proofs of concept/value, etc., in a highly dynamic, complex, and fast paced environment. The Director is responsible for proactively managing the portfolios contract renewal and project pipelines, ensuring business partner satisfaction and alignment to strategy, conducting annual planning, relationship management, and optimizing total value from the supply base. The Director will also be directly involved in large/complex sourcing initiatives and contract negotiations, and will support, grow, and coach the team

 

Job Description

What is the opportunity?

The Director, Global Procurement – Technology and Operations is responsible for leading a team of Procurement professionals that support our Cyber, Digital, and Retail Banking and Payments Technology teams with all of their Procurement needs across Software Agreements (on-prem, cloud, SaaS), hardware and infrastructure, application and implementation services, proofs of concept/value, etc., in a highly dynamic, complex, and fast paced environment.  The Director is responsible for proactively managing the portfolios contract renewal and project pipelines, ensuring business partner satisfaction and alignment to strategy, conducting annual planning, relationship management, and optimizing total value from the supply base.  The Director will also be directly involved in large/complex sourcing initiatives and contract negotiations, and will support, grow, and coach the team.

What will you do?

  • Lead interactions across executives; understand and influence the stakeholder groups and decision makers
  • Guide the portfolio/platform in understanding and leveraging stakeholder relationships; govern stakeholder management plans and frameworks
  • Develop and maintain strong, trusted relationships with key suppliers, ultimately achieving better pricing and/or quality of service while minimizing risk. Create plans to identify or develop alternative suppliers against the sourcing execution plan and business client long-term strategies
  • Lead the planning to gather data and assesses opportunities at the enterprise level for change, enhancements and/or development of recommendations on overall supplier and business unit strategy to align to broader enterprise initiatives. Liaise with the business teams to secure buy-in to the strategy
  • Develop and implement policies governing sourcing and procurement activities, common standards, policies and processes for managing supplier performance and relationships across the enterprise
  • Identify potential areas of procurement vulnerability, perform appropriate risk assessments, develop and implement corrective action plans for resolution of problematic issues, and provide general guidance on how to avoid or deal with similar situations in the future by developing early warning systems and procurement risk management tools
  • Leverage diligent contract preparation and effective negotiation skills, lead complex deal negotiations to reach the best agreement for the organization and the supplier (on the right quality, quantity, cost, timing and source of supplies, materials, and services)
  • Manage, coordinate and coach a team of RBC staff. Review, improve and sustain a high level of performance of the team members. Establish and facilitate achievement of targets for team and individual performance.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have 

  • Post-secondary education. 10+ years’ experience in global procurement, supply chain, sourcing and relationship management.
  • 3+ years’ experience managing staff team(s) of at least 3 people who also managed relationships, planning, etc with multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience in technology sourcing, contracting, and negotiating (hardware, software, consulting services, cloud, application services, and other agreements)
  • Experience supporting or operating in a technical environment
  • Leadership and management skills in implementing strategic sourcing plans or initiatives on an enterprise level; building deal summaries and presentations to senior and executive level leaders

Nice-to-have   

  • Strong grasp of procurement law and/or regulations
  • Excellent presentation skill and the ability to refine complex data and information
  • Experience in leading and supporting stakeholder interactions/relationships
  • Experience in Supply Chain or related field as well as Procurement Designation
  • Full lifecycle project management experience
  • Familiarity with building blocks of computer and network architecture, and associated license models
