Assistant Manager, Industrial Relations

The Assistant Manager, Industrial Relations & Team Experience is responsible for providing assistance at the professional level in the areas of Employee & Industrial Relations. The incumbent reports to the Manager – Industrial Relations & Team Experience and will support key deliverables for the area. Attends to grievance and disciplinary matters. Exercises care and diligence in the performance of assigned responsibilities while maintaining strict confidentiality.



Research best practices to aid in the development, and implementation of HR policies and procedures. 

  • Researching best practices and recommend initiatives to be implemented 
  •  Assisting in the formulation/design and implementation of human resource policies,  
  • procedures and programs 
  • Reviewing existing policies and make recommendations for improvements 
  • Effectively communicating all human resource policies, plans and programmes to staff.  
  • Gathering relevant information to assist in the preparation of the annual budget which informs budgetary decisions 
  • Provides information on labour legislation and statutory regulations for the effective  
  • industrial relations issues 
  • Researching relevant Labour Laws, good industrial relations principles and practices, ILO Conventions and providing guidance to management to ensure that actions conform to existing legislation 

 Develop/Assist in strategies that promote a harmonious Industrial Relations climate  

  • Develop strategies to support a harmonious Industrial Relations climate 
  • Assist the Manager – Industrial Relations & Team Experience in the implementation of strategies that promote harmonious Industrial Relations climate 
  • Manage the Branch/Unit visits process                                  

 Provides support to the Manager in Industrial Relation Matters. 

  • Responding to employee relations issues ensuring that employees’ concerns are adequately addressed  
  • Assist the Manager – Industrial Relations & Team Experience in the conduct of disciplinary hearings 
  • Attends conciliation meetings, court hearings and provides assistance in recording and preparing notes of the proceedings as required

Investigates complaints and grievances in a timely manner with a view to determining validity and for effective resolution 

Guides staff in the authorised channels for grievance settlement and assists in drafting disciplinary correspondence

  • Liaises with attorneys and Industrial Relations practitioners as required 
  • Performs administrative duties as required 
  • Prepares related correspondence and maintains related correspondence files, ensuring a filing schematic is kept up to date 
  • Completes special projects and other delegated activities that may be assigned        

Provides support to the Manager in Staff Initiatives and Wellness activities 

  • Assists in the Management and administration of the Corporation’s Group Health Plan
  • Researching, reviewing and making recommendations for improving/upgrading the Group Plan Benefits
  • Assists the Manager – Industrial Relations & Team Experience in developing and implementing staff initiatives to increase staff engagement. 
  • Assists in the development and implementation of wellness initiatives/activities 
  • Assists in the management of the Employee Assistance Programme 
  • Assists in the management of the Corporation’s gyms 


The selected candidate must have the following combination of qualifications, skills & experience: 

  • A First Degree in a relevant field form an accredited tertiary institution 
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a similar position within the financial industry and  
  • Three (3) years supervisory experience  


  • A Diploma in a relevant field from an accredited institution 
  • Minimum of six (6) years’ experience in a similar position within the financial industry and 
  • Four (4) years’ supervisory experience  
  • Suitable combination of training and experience 
  • High confidentiality and integrity 
  • Passion for delivering excellent customer service 
  • Good analytical skills to assess and interpret trends 
  • Good oral and written communication skills 
  • Strong interpersonal skills 
  • Investigative and interviewing skills 
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Tools 
  • Very good mentoring and coaching skills 
  • Excellent organizational skills 
  • Excellent analytical skills 
  • Proficiency in Excel and the entire Microsoft Office Suite 
  • Ability to lead and work in teams
