SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES  

  • Provides direction and guidance to the other plant personnel to execute proper maintenance and repairs. 
  • Monitors the operations of the electrical supply and distribution system as indicated on the mimic panel including incoming high voltage line, breakers, switches and transformers. 
  • Repairs complex electrical devices and components requiring the use of schematic and wiring diagrams.
  • Monitors the operations of all equipment and systems at the institution, including but not limited to, the Sewage Treatment Plant, the Water Treatment Plant, Broilers, Chillers, Medical Gases Systems, Compressors etc. 
  • Prepares request for the maintenance of the plant equipment and facilities on the compound in which the plant operators are involved. 
  • Ensures that there is always an adequate supply of LOX, propane, bulk gaseous oxygen, nitrous oxide and chemicals for water treatment as needed by the chillers and broilers. 
  • Checks the log sheets and the Plant Operators’ log book on a daily basis, assesses the plant operating conditions and take corrective action within the limits of defined responsibility. 
  • Establish and maintains a Preventative Maintenance Programme to ensure the proper functioning of all equipment, plant and machinery and adheres to timelines outlined.
  • Be ‘On Call’ to address emergencies that affects the functioning of the plant’s operations (Electrical, Plumbing, Infrastructure etc.)
  • Liaise with Materials Officer and Storekeeper to ensure adequate stocks are maintained e.g. oxygen tanks/level.
  • Ensures all maintenance problems are remedied in a timely manner.
  • Conducts daily inspection of the entire hospital along with the Manger, HospitalAdministration
  • Inspects plant/equipment and makes recommendations to improve the performance and reliability of same. 
  • Assists in the installation and commissioning of all new equipment. 
  • Monitors the performance of all equipment and maintains proper records on all units and assists in the engineering investigations and the preparation of reports. 
  • Assists in the preparation of specifications for the procurement of equipment and materials related to Plant Operations and prepares Purchase Requisitions for equipment and spares. 
  • Switches off high voltage supplies and load shedding as required under emergency conditions. 
  • Assists in the operational activities/management on a daily basis at the Sangre Grande Hospital 
  • Assists in the preparations of budgets with reference to the usage of utilities and services at the Hospital   
  • Prepares reports on the Plant Operators’ breakdowns, accidents and plant malfunctions 
  • Prepares operational/management reports as required. 
  • Ensures that all operations comply with the Authority’s Policies/Procedures and International Standards. 
  • Manages and controls the facilities, resources, plant and equipment at the institution. 
  • Prepares reports to the Manager-Hospital Administration on the performance of all plant and equipment including recommendations for repair and/or replacement as requested. 
  • Performs other related duties as directed by the organizational relationship.  

 
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES  

  • Knowledge in construction and electrical procedures and principles.
  • Knowledge in Project Management.
  • Knowledge of equipment used in the various fields of operations.
  • Considerable knowledge and experience of the methods and techniques of plant maintenance
  • Considerable knowledge and experience of all aspects of construction techniques.
  • Considerable knowledge and experience of the materials and operations of equipment used in the areas of maintenance.
  • Ability to organize, plan and supervise the work of a group of skilled and semi-skilled workers engaged in plant maintenance and other related activities
  • Ability to analyze operational problems and to make necessary changes.
  • Ability to effect repairs to a wide variety of mechanical, dental, electronic equipment and appliances.
  • Ability to maintain good relationships with other employees and the public.
  • Experience in the operations of a hospital environment. 

 
 
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE  

  • A Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution. 
  • Current Registration with the Board of Engineering of Trinidad and Tobago. 
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in maintenance of equipment and machinery or in a related field. 
  • An understanding of project management techniques and methods.
  • Any equivalent combination of skills and experience.
