Mechanic (Grade 4) - Daily Paid

Duties of the post include:

  1. Performing preventative maintenance, repairs and testing of vehicles submersible and suction lift sewer pumps, blowers, mechanical stirrers, electromechanical woodworking equipment, air compressors, lawnmowers, weed whackers and water pumps. 
  2. Inspecting backup generators, elevators, valves, gauges, hoses, and pumps. Setting up temporary portable generators and diesel water pumps.
  3. Assisting in campus emergencies and with safety regulation on job sites.
  4. Assisting with the Government inspections of the Division’s vehicles and the transferring of the University’s vehicles.
  5. Performing any other duties as may be assigned by the Mechanical Foreman, Mechanical Supervisor, the Facilities Manager, Electrical and Mechanical Maintenance or the Director, Division of Facilities Management. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Applicants must have knowledge of performance characteristics, inspections and maintenance procedures necessary for the repair, maintenance, and adjustment of vehicle suspensions, internal combustion four-stroke engines, small two-stroke engines, hoists, compressors, pumps and other related equipment. Candidates should have knowledge and skills in the use of hand and electrical tools such as grinders, drill press, socket sets, winches and torque handles. Applicants should possess the ability to use electrical reading and testing equipment, hoisting and rigging equipment, chain blocks, etc.

Applicants must be willing to work flexible hours including weekends/ public holidays when required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required:  

Applicants must possess certified training in the trade of mechanics and should have five (5) G.C.E ‘O’ Levels or CXC/CSEC (General I, II or III from 1998) or equivalent Technical and Vocational Education and Training as evidenced by certification from a recognized institution.

Experience:

Three (3) years’ work experience in the trade of mechanics.

Salary will be fixed in accordance with Grade 4 of the salary scale ($5,940 x 210 - $8,460).
