Duties of the post include:

  1. Operating on machine equipment and carrying out work assignments based on job orders and related maintenance/service activities anywhere in the Faculty.
  2. Reading and interpreting drawings, blueprints, charts and other information in order to plan and execute the job.
  3. Providing technical support by designing and/or modifying student projects and assisting them during practical workshop sessions.
  4. Providing technical support in conducting laboratory sessions for students.
  5. Demonstrating machining techniques to students as required.
  6. Completing calculations and measurements (e.g. where to drill, what to cut and how fast to go) using precision measuring instruments.
  7. Verifying dimensions of products for accuracy and conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments, observing quality and technical guidelines and reporting any variations to the Supervisor.
  8. Fitting and assembling components and machine parts and repairing machines.
  9. Maintaining inspection records and completing inspection reports.
  10. Demonstrating the proper and safe use of tools and equipment by all staff and students in accordance with OSHA safety rules and regulations.
  11. Performing any other related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Applicants must possess knowledge in the use of lathes, shapes, grinders, saws and other related equipment.  Applicants must be skilled in operating machine equipment in order to produce precision metal parts.  They must be able to read drawings, blueprints and interpret specifications. Applicants must also be willing to work flexible hours when required.  The successful applicant should have a working understanding of the OSH Act. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

Required:

Five (5) GCE or CXC ‘O’ level passes (General I, II or III from 1998) including English Language and Mathematics.

A Technician’s Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a Certificate in Machine Shop Craft/Tool and Die Making.

Experience:

Candidates must possess a minimum of three (3) years’ practical work experience in a Machine Shop and/or knowledge in Machine Shop Technology.

Salary will be fixed in accordance with Grade 7 of the salary scale ($7,476 X 272 - $10,740).
