The successful candidates will report to the Senior Valuation Surveyor

Job Purpose

Assist with the maintenance of the Valuation Roll and undertakes the valuation of properties as requested by other ministries, departments, and agencies.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical/Professional Responsibilities

  • Conducts inspections of property  to determine:
  • the measurements of buildings and other structures
  • the condition(s) of building(s) etc., and their similarities (if any) with neighbouring properties
  • Special features, physical characteristics, use and production levels etc.
  • Land use classification for the purpose of maintaining and improving the accuracy of the Valuation Roll and the Cadastral Index Map
  • Conducts interviews of landowners and persons in possession , in relation to assigned duties
  • Undertakes the Valuation of Properties through:
  • Conducting  property and market related research
  • Conducting area analyses and market related surveys
  • Undertaking the classification and analysis of comparable sale/rental data
  • Submission of value determination to supervisor for review
  • Undertakes all amendments to the Valuation Roll as assigned, including
  • Applying Valuation Standards to new valuations created
  • Conducting field inspections to positively identify properties and to investigate ownership/possessory interests
  • Assists with Revaluation and Objection programme by
  • Preparing Valuation Standards for review
  • Undertaking the review of applications for Land Taxation Relief/Agricultural Derating
  • Processing Objection cases as assigned.

Other Responsibilities

  • Updating the sales database;
  • Keeping abreast of general property market and valuation trends through research
  • Keeping abreast of technological solutions with regard to valuation and mass appraisal trends.
  • Participating in team efforts to achieve Divisional and Agency goals;
  • Performing other related duties assigned from time to time by the Senior Valuation surveyor

Required Skills/Competencies

The post-holder should be able to demonstrate:

  • Problem solving and analytical skills
  • Problem solving and decision making skills
  • Knowledge of the statutes and regulations relating to land including the Land Valuation Act and the Land Taxation Relief Act of Jamaica
  • Proficiency in MS Word and MS Excel

Minimum Required Qualifications and Experience

  • B.Sc. Degree Real Estate Management & Valuation (formerly Land Economy and Valuation Surveying) or,
  • B.Sc. Degree in the field of Estate Management/Valuation or its equivalent

Remuneration Package:

  •  Salary: $1,422,229.00 - $1,531,715.00 p.a.
  • Motor Vehicle Travel Allowance: $894,924.00 p.a. (If you own a motor vehicle)
